Start Bay, Kingsbridge, Devon, Caravan and Motorhome Club Site.

Our first impression of the Start Bay Caravan and Motorhome Club site was that it was set in a pretty valley and the pitches were well spread out in an open field.

The site facilities were clean and easily accessible to the pitches.

A highlight of staying at this campsite was that next to the campsite was a path that led you on a short walk to a wonderful Farm Shop, Brewery, Cafe and a few small gift/clothing shops.

The site is a fabulous location for exploring the spectacular beaches, coastline and harbour towns of South Devon.

We went on a bicycle ride into Salcombe from the campsite and took a little ferry across the estuary to the town. We had the best locally made ice cream there I have ever tasted!

The Surrounding Area

Start Bay is one of the Westcountry's most beautiful bays. Lined with stunning beaches, pretty villages and great pubs, it's a popular South Devon visitor destination.

Part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Start Bay runs from the Dart Estuary to the north down to Start Point and Start Point Lighthouse to the south.

Dartmouth is to the north and lines the Dart Estuary. Kingsbrigde and Salcombe are to the west and are located on the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary.

Both Dartmouth and Salcombe are definitely worth visiting when on holiday in this part of the Westcountry. Start Bay is between them.

We'd recommend walking the South West Coast Path along the coastline here as it's a treat.

Running north to south, you'll pass by Blackpool Sands (Beach), Strete Gate Beach (Slapton Sands), Slapton Sands (Beach), Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve, Bee Sands (Beach) and Hall Sands (Beach) on your way to Start Point and Start Point Lighthouse.

It's also fun to head west from Start Point, past a number of small coves, to Devon's most southerly village at East Prawle.

The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary is beyond East Prawle. Take the ferry from East Portlemouth across the water to Salcombe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this site and would definitely go back there again.
